The counting of votes began on Sunday to elect a new Puducherry Assembly amid a raging COVID-19 pandemic. President's Rule was imposed in Puducherry after the V Narayanasamy-led Congress government lost the vote of confidence in the Assembly. The NDA is currently leading in 9 seats while the UPA leads in 2 seats. As per ECI's latest numbers, the NDA is still leading with alliance parties AINRC and BJP gaining two constituencies each. 

On the other hand, the opposition DMK and independent candidates have bagged one constituency each. Early trends indicate that the alliance is leading on seven seats while the Congress-led UPA is trailing with a lead in three seats so far.As many as 324 candidates jumped into poll fray and they included party sponsored nominees and Independents. The counting of votes relating to all the 30 segments is expected to be completed by 11 PM Sunday, a release from the office of CEO said.
