Odisha govt promotes students from class 1 to 8 to next class without exams
The Odisha School and Mass Education department on Tuesday announced to promote all the students from standard 1 to 8 to the next higher class without examination for the academic session 2020-21, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The state government has also decided to conduct remedial classes for first 2-3 months in new academic session to bring the students to appropriate competency level, applicable for all government, government-aided & all un-aided private schools under state's School & Mass Education Department.
“I am directed to say that Government has been pleased to approve the proposal that there will be examination/ assessment test during the academic session 2020-21 for Class I to VI if students of the said classes will be promoted to the next higher class, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the State,” the State Mass Education department stated in its notification dated March 16.
Schools in the state were shut around March 2020 due to COVID-19 induced lockdown. Following the lockdown schools were shifted to the online mode of teaching. Many private schools decided to promote students based on their performance during the year.
