New Delhi, May 13 Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, on Wednesday alleged that the BJP is "pressurising" popular singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh to join politics.

Mann was addressing reporters after his meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

A few days back, Dosanjh had strongly dismissed the idea of him becoming the political face of Punjab with a reply stating “Kadey V Nhi (Never)”, making it crystal clear that politics is not on his radar as his work is “entertainment.”

Reacting to the same, the Punjab Chief Minister said: "A few days ago, it came to light that Diljit is being pressured by the BJP to enter politics."

Referring to the victory of actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, he said: "Ever since Vijay’s victory in Tamil Nadu, they (BJP) feel people have stopped listening to political leaders, so they want to bring forward famous personalities. Diljit has also tweeted that he is an artist and enjoys entertaining people."

A few days ago, Dosanjh had re-shared an article by a Punjabi newspaper with the headline 'Could Diljit Dosanjh become the new political face of Punjab?' on his X handle #diljitdosanjh.

Replying to it, he Tweeted: “Kadey v Nhi (never ever)... Mera Kam Entertainment Karna (my job is to do entertainment)... Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much.”

Further, CM Mann responded to reports of unidentified assailants opening fire outside the Haryana residence of Dosanjh's manager Gurpartap Kang.

Reportedly, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the firing incident.

"Shots are fired, then somebody claims responsibility, this politics of intimidation should not happen. Artistes should be allowed to continue their work of entertaining people," CM Mann asserted.

Earlier in May, during his concert in Calgary, the singer had halted his performance to address individuals waving pro-Khalistan flags in the crowd. The singer told them to take the flags elsewhere, saying "Use this place for the purpose it is intended for.”

Dosanjh said the flags were removed for disrupting the concert and for using the flag to protest against him. Taking to his stories section, he tagged it as a “fake narrative” and said he would not tolerate anyone trying to harass his fans or disrupt his shows.
