Republic Day 2026: Delhi Metro Starts 3 AM Services to Ease Kartavya Path Rush on January 26
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has announced changes to its train schedule for Republic Day 2026, to be observed on January 26. The revised timetable has been introduced to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel for people heading towards Kartavya Path to witness the national celebrations. According to the corporation, the decision was taken keeping in mind the large crowds expected for the parade and related events. By starting services earlier than usual, the metro authority aims to reduce congestion on roads and provide a safe, efficient public transport option for citizens planning to attend the Republic Day समारोह.
As per the updated plan, Delhi Metro services on all lines will begin at 3:00 am on Monday, January 26. Trains will run at a frequency of every 15 minutes until 6:00 am, after which the normal weekday schedule will resume for the day. The corporation has advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and utilise the early morning services to avoid last-minute inconvenience. It conveyed that the staggered frequency in the early hours is intended to manage passenger flow efficiently during the peak movement towards central Delhi.
Explaining the arrangement, the Principal Executive Director for Corporate Communications at DMRC stated that the early start was aligned with the spirit and pride of Republic Day celebrations. He added that operating trains at 15-minute intervals during the early morning hours would help ensure smooth and comfortable travel for commuters. He further noted that once the initial rush subsides after 6:00 am, metro services will continue as per the regular timetable throughout the day, allowing passengers to travel normally across the network without disruption.

The DMRC also clarified that parking facilities at metro stations across the city will remain fully functional on Republic Day, offering added convenience to those attending official events and celebrations. However, due to heightened security arrangements, entry and exit at six metro stations will remain closed from 3:00 am until the Republic Day programme concludes. These stations are Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and ITO. Passengers have been advised to plan alternative routes and stations accordingly.
