Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Srinivasa Sethupathi won the Tirupattur Assembly seat by one vote after defeating DMK minister Periyakaruppan, who received 83,364 votes. The Assembly Election result 2026 has shocked Tamil Nadu.

Leaders from DMK demanded a recount and three verifications. However, after rectifying, the results are the same. Srinivasa Sethupathi secured 83,365 votes. BJP candidate Thirumaran finished third with 29,054 votes.

Periyakaruppan had held the constituency since 2006. Reports suggest that he has demanded a recount of votes following the narrow defeat. Meanwhile, TVK won four constituencies in Sivaganga district.

In its debut Assembly election, TVK emerged as the single-largest party by winning 108 seats. However, the party fell short of the simple majority mark of 118 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Party chief Vijay is reportedly trying to secure support from smaller parties and leaders from both the DMK and AIADMK alliances to form the government. Reports also suggest that TVK is attempting to bring the Congress on board by offering ministerial positions.

The party is also said to be in talks with parties such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). Vijay is expected to hold discussions with the newly elected MLAs later today.
