UP Budget 2025: Rs. 8.08 Lakh Crore Allocated for Infrastructure, Women's Empowerment, and Road Expansion by Suresh Kumar Khanna

Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna tabled Rs. 8,08,736 crore Budget for the financial year 2025-26 on February 20. He said in the state assembly that the government will focus on research & development and Information Technology.

He further mentioned the fourth budget of Yogi 2.0 will focus on widening/strengthening/constructing roads. The government has proposed investing Rs 200 crore for development of the North-South Corridor in the state.

Overall the budget will prioritise infrastructure development, technology, education, healthcare, and social welfare. The government will focus on improving public services across Uttar Pradesh.

The budget sought to serve a number of societal groups, including the general public, farmers, women, youth, the poor, and the middle class.

In order to fulfil political pledges, the budget included a number of new initiatives. Notably, under the Rani Laxmibai Scooty Yojana, which has been funded with Rs 400 crore, scooters would be given to qualified ladies pursuing higher education.

Infrastructure development was given top priority in the budget, with funds set aside for the building of four new motorways. A greenfield motorway of Rs. 900 crore that will connect the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Ganga Expressway at Kausia, Hardoi, via Farrukhabad.

A corridor with an initial budget of Rs. 50 crore that would connect the Ganga Motorway to Sonbhadra via Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, and Chandauli.

A section that will cost Rs. 50 crore and connect Meerut and Haridwar.

The proposed Bundelkhand Rewa Motorway has an initial budget of Rs. 50 crore.

To further strengthen the state's industrial and defence production capacities, an additional Rs. 461 crore has been set aside for the Defence Industrial Corridor project along the Bundelkhand Motorway.

In the ninth consecutive budget of the Yogi-government, capital expenditures will account for over 20.5% of the Rs. 8,08,736 lakh billion budget. Infrastructure development has received 22% of the overall budget, followed by education at 13%, agriculture and related services at 11%, medical and health at 6%, and social security programs at 4%.
