Uttarakhand Horror: Kashmiri Boy Assaulted in Vikas Nagar; One Arrested, Police Assure Action Against Communal Intimidation

An FIR (No. 26/2026) has been registered at Vikas Nagar Police Station in Uttarakhand following the brutal assault on an 18-year-old Kashmiri boy, bringing the case under formal legal scrutiny. According to police officials, one of the accused, identified as Sanjay Yadav, has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to identify and nab all those involved. The registration of the FIR marks a significant step toward accountability in the incident, which occurred while the victim was selling shawls with his family in the area to earn a livelihood during the winter season.

Jammu Kashmir Students association expressed shock over the incident andin a statement told that relatives of the victim informed them that the boy was first questioned about his identity. “Upon learning that the family belonged to the Muslim community and was from Kashmir, the violence escalated. The boy was punched repeatedly, while other family members were dragged, slapped and attacked with sharp iron rods,” it added.

The victim sustained serious injuries in the attack, including a fractured arm and head trauma, and is currently undergoing medical treatment. Police confirmed that statements of witnesses and family members are being recorded as part of the probe. Authorities are also examining allegations that the violence escalated after the attackers questioned the family’s identity and background. Law enforcement officials have assured that the case will be investigated thoroughly, with all evidence being collected to ensure that those responsible are booked under appropriate sections of the law without any bias or delay.

Reacting to the incident, the Uttarakhand Director General of Police assured strict action against anyone found guilty and reiterated that communal intimidation will not be tolerated. The DGP said the police force remains committed to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of Kashmiri students and citizens residing or working in the state. Senior officials have been directed to closely monitor the situation and maintain law and order, while also ensuring that minority communities feel secure and supported. The assurance aims to restore public confidence and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
