Was jailed for nothing, paper leak masterminds let off: AAP's Manish Sisodia on NEET-UG 2026 cancellation

New Delhi, May 12 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government of being negligent towards incidents of "paper leaks" in the NEET-UG 2026 and claimed that those responsible for such misdeeds are "let off immediately".

His reaction came in response to the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelling the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3.

It announced that the examination would be re-conducted on dates to be notified separately.

The NTA's decision followed after reports emerged of alleged irregularities linked to the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) probe into the conduct of NEET (UG) 2026.​

Speaking to IANS, Sisodia said: "The way NEET papers are getting leaked almost every year, it reflects that the Union government is not bothered about the students appearing for the exam."

"Where will the lakhs of students and their parents go? What is the government doing?" he added.

Moreover, the former Delhi Education Minister alleged: "The people who indulge in such acts are kept in prison for some time and then let off. This shows that influential people, who have links with those in power, are also involved."

"I did nothing but was still kept in jail for 18 months but those who are destroying the future of 22 lakh students and their parents, are being let off immediately," Sisodia added.

The former Delhi Education Minister alleged that the NTA has completely "failed", adding that "the agency is messing with the future of the country's students".

Separately, the Delhi Police rescued 18 NEET aspirants from various hotels in Delhi-NCR who had been kept in confinement by a gang that had collected Rs 20-30 lakh each from their parents by promising guaranteed MBBS admissions under management and other quotas.​

The 18 aspirants were rescued on the eve of NEET on May 3 and helped to appear in the exam after counselling.​

Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday raised the issue of alleged "corruption" in the NEET UG exam for admission to medical colleges, accusing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government of failing to check malpractices that endanger the youth's future.​
