The Thane Creek behind the NRI Complex in Navi Mumbai's Nerul turned pink on Friday, May 16, as flamingos arrived in the city. A video shared by the news agency ANI shows thousands of birds drinking water after the long journey. 

Local spectators and birdwatchers reached the wetlands in Navi Mumbai to witness the pink landscape created by thousands of flamingos. Every season, these birds travel from foreign countries such as Iran and Africa.

Before landing in Navi Mumbai, they take a stop at the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat in search of food and rest. Every year, these birds migrate to the city along with the Central Asian Flyway, one of the world’s major migratory bird routes.

Migratory birds usually arrive in winter between November and March, but wildlife researchers noted that the birds appeared later this season and have continued to remain in the region through April and May. 

Most popular spots for flamingo-viewing wetlands near Thane Creek, Palm Beach Road, the NRI Complex in Nerul, Karave Flamingo Point and Belapur Creek. According to birdwatchers, the best time to spot flamingos is between 6:30 am and 9 am and from 4.30 pm to 6 pm.
