Nerul and Belapur See Massive Demolition Drive by NMMC
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a major demolition drive in the Nerul and Belapur wards, targeting unauthorised constructions that remained standing despite prior notices. The civic body had issued notices to violators under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, on March 3, 2025.
In the Nerul ward, unauthorised G+3 RCC structures were found under construction at properties belonging to Ravindra R. Thakur and Suraj Kot in Sector 10. Both had been served notices under the MRTP Act, but as the notice period expired without voluntary removal, the NMMC proceeded with demolition on March 8, 2025. The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner and Division Officer Sagar More and Junior Engineer Sanjay Sontakke, with support from 10 laborers, two breakers, two gas cutters, security personnel, and a police squad from the Encroachment Department.

A similar action was taken in the Belapur ward, where unauthorised structures were found in Karave Village. Despite receiving notices under Section 54 of the MRTP Act, the property owners failed to remove the illegal constructions. Consequently, the Belapur ward office conducted a demolition drive, ensuring the removal of the encroachments.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has warned that strict action against unauthorized constructions will continue in the future to uphold urban planning regulations and prevent illegal developments.
