The answer that immediately comes to your mind for the question posed in the title of this article is not wrong at all. English is the most spoken language in the world! According to a study, about 1 billion 45 crore people speak English, which means English is their main business.
The two numbers below that, of course, are the share of those languages due to the huge population of those countries. 1.11 billion people speak Chinese, i.e. Mandarin.

Bengalis - 272 million. Bengali, often referred to as Bangla follows Portuguese as a language among the most spoken ones in the world. Although it is only spoken as a native language in a few different countries, mostly in Bangladesh and India.
Russian - 258 million. Russian is the official language of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, and it’s considered an unofficial lingua franca in Ukraine and many former Soviet countries.
Portuguese is spoken by approximately 257 million people around the world, with a high number being in Africa and South America.
Urdu - 231 million. It is the official state language of Pakistan and is also officially recognized, or scheduled, in the constitution of India.
