The Anandvan was established in 1949 by senior social activists Baba Amte and Sadhana Amte. So the lepers, who were rejected by the whole society, got shelter here. Baba served them. Gave them new inspiration to live. Anandvan's first ‘Smart Village’

To encourage young people in the medical field in India to work in the social sector, Dr. Sheetal Amte had set up Mashal and Chirag. She was its founder. He had recently started a center called Nijbal.

Under this, work was being done to make the citizens with physical disabilities self-reliant and to provide them various skill training programs.

Sheetal worked for schools for the disabled, Anand Mookbadhir Vidyalaya and Anand Andh Vidyalaya. His priority was to bring quality in the education of the disabled and to increase the capacity of their teachers.

Financial planning of institutions at Hemalkasa, Anandvan, Somnath by completing social entrepreneurship course while doing doctoral service as well as making Anandvan a 'smart village', 'Nijbal' for the disabled and 'Yuvagram' for unemployed youth, 'Anand Mookbadhir Vidyalaya'

Sheetal Amte was in charge of the entire Anandvan. She was leading the third generation of Baba Amte.

Dr. Sheetal got married to Gautam Karjagi on October 25, 2007. Later, not only education and training for the disabled but also for them to get employment, the 'Nijbal' initiative was started by Dr. Sheetal had taken over. There are disabled people between the ages of 18 and 35.
