'I used to hide rotis in my underwear": Savita Pradhan recalls the brutal abuse by her husband

Savita Pradhan is counted among the most efficient officers today. His career began as a civil servant for the Madhya Pradesh government. She is the Joint Director in Gwalior Division. His journey from a very poor family to become an officer has been a struggle.

Recalling her struggle, Savita said, she used to hide chapatis in her underwear and eat it in the bathroom, as she was brutally abused mentally and physically by her in laws.

Tired of her father-in-law’s torture, she was ready to commit suicide. However, at that moment something happened that made me wonder why I should give my life for these people.

She left her father-in-law’s house with her two children. In between, worked in parlors etc. and later became an officer and taught her husband a good lesson.

Savita Pradhan is a renowned officer of Madhya Pradesh. She is often in the limelight due to her work.

In 2021, Savita Khandwa became the first woman commissioner of the Municipal Corporation. When Savita was the CMO of Mandsaur, there was a lot of discussion. He had taken action against the opium smugglers by conducting a campaign against the mafia here. Meanwhile, bungalows worth crores were illegally demolished.

Savita’s story before becoming an officer is very painful. He was born in a tribal family in a village called Mandi in Madhya Pradesh. There was a lot of poverty in the family.

She was the third child of his parents. The village had a school up to 10th standard. Most girls are not sent to school. But, she was one of the lucky girls who got a chance to go to school.

The aim was also to get parents a scholarship of Rs 150-200 for sending them to school. She was the only girl in her village to pass the 10th board examination.

After this she was transferred to another government school 7 km away.

Savita's mother also got a small job in the same village. Thus they started living in the same village.

Started studying Biology in 11th and 12th. Meanwhile, she received a marriage proposal from a big household who assured to take care of Savita.

Savita did not want to marry this boy. However, due to the coercion of the family, they got married only after a month. Within a few days of their marriage, they were treated like servants. She started working in her father-in-law’s house.

She was mentally and physically harassed everyday.

As soon as Savita said that she did not want to go back to her father-in-law’s house, the family insisted on staying with her husband again. Savita understood that this path was not easy. He also explained to them that everything will be fine after having children etc. After one child, he also had another child. But, nothing went right. The husband’s beating continued.Savita left her in-laws house and continued her education. In the meantime, he also worked in parlors etc. for earning. He did his Masters in Public Administration from Indore University. He had cleared the Civil Services Examination in the first attempt. Savita’s first posting was as Chief Municipal Officer.
