Sri Lanka
In 2011, Sri Lanka renounced the colonial name Ceylon to declare its independence from lingering British and Portuguese influences.
Botswana
In March 1885, Britain changed the official name of Botswana to Bechuanaland. But after independence on 30 September 1966, the country was renamed as Botswana.
Ethiopia
