Days after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it was withdrawing Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes from circulation, shopkeepers and vendors were unwilling to accept the currency notes from customers. This is despite the fact that the RBI’s announcement said that the Rs 2,000 currency notes will continue to remain legal tender for now.

It is not necessary for a person to be a customer of the bank to exchange soon-to-be-discontinued currency. A non-account holder can exchange ₹ 2,000 banknotes up to a limit of ₹ 20,000 at a time at any bank branch.
