Extreme Heat Conditions Continue in Pimpri-Chinchwad as Temperature Reaches 41 Degree Celsius
Pimpri: From past few days heat has intensified in Pimpri-Chinchwad city and surrounding areas consequently, residents of this 'Workers' City' (Kamgarnagari) are distressed by the sweltering heat. The week's highest temperature 41 degrees Celsius was recorded and citizens are seen struggling to cope with the fluctuating weather patterns, which feature scorching heat that makes the body burn during the day, cloudy skies in the evening, and a resurgence of stifling heat at night.
The weather in Pimpri-Chinchwad has undergone a distinct shift. The stinging heat becomes palpable as early as the morning hours. In the afternoons, pedestrian and vehicular traffic on the streets dwindles, as citizens are avoiding stepping out of their homes unless absolutely necessary. The heat intensity was particularly severe today. During the afternoon hours, the Pune-Mumbai Highway, as well as major intersections in Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Thergaon, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, and Bhosari along with the Pimpri Camp market area appeared deserted. Due to the rising temperatures, there has been a significant surge in demand for cold beverages, sugarcane juice, lemonade, buttermilk, ice cream, and fruit juices.
Despite cloudy evenings, the heat persists, disrupting sleep and driving up electricity consumption due to increased use of cooling devices. Young children, senior citizens, and outdoor laborers are particularly vulnerable to the heat, with doctors reporting a rise in heatstroke, headaches, dizziness, weakness, and dehydration. Medical experts advise staying indoors during the afternoon, drinking plenty of water, and eating light meals.
Midday traffic was lighter on city roads between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders bearing the brunt of the heat, are using scarves, goggles, and gloves in addition to helmets for sun protection. Weather patterns are shifting, with intense daytime sunshine yielding to overcast evenings, yet no rain, exacerbating heat and humidity. The Municipal Administration and Health Department advise citizens to take precautions during summer: cover heads with caps or cloth in the afternoon, drink ample water (ORS or lemon water), and take extra care of children and the elderly.
