Pune police launched a special drive and carried out major crackdown to crub down the rising number of drug related cases in city. Acting on the orders of the Police Commissioner, this campaign was executed by forming special squads within the jurisdictions of various police stations falling under Zone 7.
During this drive, conducted between April 8 and April 23, raids were conducted in the areas of Wagholi, Lonikand, Lohegaon (Airport), Chandannagar, and Kharadi. As part of this operation, a total of 13 cases were registered under the NDPS Act against individuals involved in the sale and consumption of MD (Mephedrone) and Ganja.
In the course of this campaign, the police arrested a total of 11 accused individuals. During the interrogation of the arrested suspects, information surfaced revealing that some of them were procuring the MD narcotic substance from Rajasthan. Acting on this lead, the police extended their investigation, conducting a raid all the way to Rajasthan to track down additional suspects. In this entire operation, the police seized contraband and property worth approximately ₹48,66,250.
This haul includes 268.11 grams of MD, 482 grams of Ganja, and 260 grams of powder (a substance mixed with MD).
