Pune Bus Accident: 2 Killed, Several Injured After ST Bus Falls Into Ditch Near Alephata
A tragic accident took place on Sunday on the Kalyan–Ahilyanagar National Highway near Gunjalwadi Phata in Pune district’s Alephata area. A crowded state transport bus reportedly lost control near Belhe and plunged into a deep roadside ditch, creating panic among passengers. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the front portion of the bus completely mangled. Two people, including the bus driver and a passenger, died on the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries. A few passengers narrowly escaped with minor injuries. The accident caused chaos in the area as rescue efforts began immediately after the incident occurred on the busy highway.
According to preliminary information, the bus belonged to the Bhiwandi depot and was packed with passengers due to the holiday rush. While travelling through the highway stretch near Gunjalwadi Phata, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to veer off the road and fall into a deep pit within seconds. Following the crash, local villagers, youths and nearby commuters rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations without waiting for emergency teams. They reportedly broke open the windows and doors of the damaged bus to pull trapped passengers to safety. Their timely response helped rescue several injured travellers from the wreckage.
After receiving information about the mishap, police personnel and ambulance teams reached the spot and shifted the injured passengers to various private hospitals in Alephata for treatment. Doctors are currently treating several seriously injured victims. The accident also disrupted traffic movement on the national highway for some time before authorities cleared the route. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact reason behind the crash. Among the injured passengers are Kondibhau Karbhari Wakchaure, Kamal Wakchaure, Shankar Shejal, Vaishali Shejal, Magan Patole, Shobha Patole, Sharada Mengale, Ashwini Bahirat, Alka Gaikwad, Arun Gunjal, Dipali Dongre, Ulhas Tambe, Yamuna Pawase, Divya Pawar, Siddhesh Kale, Asha Kale, Nitin Kale, Sundar Yelmar, Manisha Bohade and Pratibha Mandale.
