Pune Crime: Man Allegedly Rapes Woman In Car On Pretext Of Dropping Her Home; Police Launch Hunt For Accused

A woman was allegedly raped in a moving car on Mundhwa-Koregaon Park Road in Pune in the early hours of Sunday, May 17, according to the local media reports.

According to the complaint filed by the woman, the incident took place around 1:30 am after she left a party at a well-known hotel in the Koregaon Park area. Police said the accused had met the woman during the party and later offered to drop her home in his car.

During the journey, the accused allegedly raped the woman inside the moving vehicle. Following the incident, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint. A case has been registered at Koregaon Park Police Station and an investigation is underway.

Police officials said teams are examining CCTV footage from the area and collecting technical evidence to trace the accused. Efforts are also being made to establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the incident.

The case has once again raised concerns over women’s safety in Pune, particularly in busy nightlife areas such as Koregaon Park. 

The development comes days after another serious crime involving the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in the Nasrapur area of Pune district, which had also sparked public outrage. Police said further investigation into the case is Underway.
