A heartbreaking incident was reported from Pune’s Sinhagad Road locality after a seven-year-old boy allegedly died after remaining trapped inside a lift for nearly one and a half hours in a residential complex. The deceased has been identified as Shivansh Shailesh Dhut. The tragedy took place on Tuesday night at Riddhi Siddhi Apartment in the Nimbajinagar area. According to police officials, Shivansh had gone downstairs around 10 pm to play within the society premises, which he reportedly did on a regular basis. During this time, the child is believed to have entered the building elevator and pressed one of the floor buttons before the lift suddenly malfunctioned midway.
As Shivansh failed to return home for an unusually long time, his family members grew worried and began searching for him across the apartment premises. Several residents also joined the search operation. During the search, suspicion arose that the lift may have become stuck due to a technical problem. Authorities were alerted around 11.30 pm, following which teams from the fire brigade and Sinhagad Road Police rushed to the housing society. Rescue personnel worked to open the stalled elevator cabin and eventually managed to gain access. However, the child was discovered unconscious inside the lift and could not be saved despite rescue efforts.

Police officials suspect that Shivansh may have lost his life after being trapped inside the enclosed lift cabin for an extended duration. However, the exact cause of death will only be determined after the postmortem examination report is received. Investigators stated that no major technical defect in the lift has been detected during the initial inspection conducted so far. Authorities also mentioned that the responsibility for maintaining the lift rests with the management of the housing society. An accidental death report has been registered by Sinhagad Road Police, and a detailed investigation is currently underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragic incident.
