Pune Metro Phase 2 Expansion: Ajit Pawar Proposes Rs 9,897 Crore for New Lines in Maharashtra Budget 2025

The state budget includes a Rs 9,897 crore proposal, submitted to the central government, for Pune Metro's expansion, benefiting all city residents. Finance Minister Ajit Pawar announced this during the presentation of the eleventh state budget, detailing the second phase of metro works. While Phase I focused on the central area, Phase II aims to extend the network outwards with 23 kilometers of new routes. Currently, 1.5 lakh Punekars use the metro daily; this number is projected to rise significantly with the new routes.

The central government has already approved the Swargate to Katraj extension. The Rs 9,897 crore proposal submitted for central government approval includes the Khadakwasla - Swargate - Hadapsar - Kharadi and Nal Stop - Warje - Manikbagh routes under Pune Metro Phase II.

To further enhance Pune's public transport, construction will soon begin on several new, approved metro lines.
