Pune news: Two Arrested in Pimpri for Betting on India vs Australia Match, Police Seize Cash and Phones

Following India's victory over Australia on Tuesday, which secured their place in the finals, police in Pimpri acted on information regarding online betting on the match. Raids were conducted at two locations, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.

Pimpri-Chinchwad's Crime Branch Unit 3 apprehended one suspect at the open hall of the Pimpri Volleyball Ground, while the Anti-Gundam Squad raided a location in Ravikiran Society near Sadhu Vaswani Park in Pimpri, detaining another.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Romi Suresh Nehlani, 37, a resident of Dairy Farm Road, Pimpri, and Naresh Parasaram Tolani, 39, a resident of Ravikiran Society, Pimpri. A case has also been registered against Nillu alias Nilesh Ram Rakhiani, a resident of Pimpri.

Police Constable Ganesh Medge of the Anti-Gundam Squad filed a complaint at the Pimpri police station. The complaint states that Constable Baba received information during a police patrol that Naresh Tolani was engaged in online betting on the India-Australia cricket match from his home. Consequently, police raided Tolani's residence in Ravikiran Society. Upon entering, Police Sub-Inspector Jagtap found Tolani allegedly using a mobile phone, notebook, and pen to take bets.

In a separate incident, Police Anmaldar Ramdas Yashwant Mergal filed a complaint at Pimpri Police Station. While Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Kadam was patrolling, information surfaced indicating ongoing betting on the cricket match. Subsequently, a team acted at the open hall of the Volleyball Ground in Pimpri, where they discovered Romi Nehlani allegedly using a mobile phone to place bets while watching the match on another mobile phone. He was detained, and authorities seized Rs 2,940 in cash along with his mobile phone.
