Pune Theft: Gold Chain Worth ₹1.5 Lakh, Cash Stolen From Car Near Railway Station
A case of theft has come to light in the Pune railway station area, where a college student alleged that valuables were stolen while he was asleep in a car parked outside a pub. According to the complaint, a gold chain worth ₹1.5 lakh belonging to the student, along with ₹6,500 in cash and a mobile phone belonging to his friend, were stolen, taking the total loss to ₹1.63 lakh. The complainant has expressed suspicion that a bouncer working at the pub may be involved in the incident. An offence has been registered against an unidentified bouncer at Bundgarden Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Police officials stated that the complainant resides in the Bavdhan area of Pune. On January 31, he and his friend visited a pub near Pune railway station. After spending time there, the two stepped out around midnight and decided to rest in their car parked in the designated parking area, as they had arrived together in the same vehicle. While they were asleep inside the car, an unknown person allegedly stole the gold chain from the student’s neck and removed cash and a mobile phone from his friend’s pocket. Police Sub-Inspector Reshma More is currently leading the probe into the matter.
Incidents of chain snatching have been on the rise, raising concerns about public safety. People who wear gold ornaments in crowded places are being urged to remain vigilant. Recently, CCTV footage of a shocking daytime theft surfaced online, showing a young woman snatching a gold chain from a child in a busy vegetable market. The manner in which she executed the theft has left viewers stunned. The video clearly captures her calculated movements and quick escape, highlighting how such crimes are being carried out brazenly even in public spaces during broad daylight.
The footage, reportedly recorded at a local vegetable market, shows several women standing near a vendor’s cart purchasing vegetables. The accused woman is initially seen pretending to buy tomatoes while standing close to a little girl. Seizing the opportunity, she discreetly cuts the chain from the child’s neck using a pair of scissors and flees before the girl’s mother realizes what has happened. The entire act was captured on a nearby CCTV camera and later shared on social media platform X.

After the video went viral, many social media users expressed concern and outrage. Some commented that parents should be extremely cautious while taking children to crowded marketplaces. Others emphasized that alertness is the only effective safeguard against such incidents. One user wrote that it is risky to send children wearing gold ornaments into busy areas, while another pointed out how cleverly the woman carried out the theft with scissors in hand. The incident has once again highlighted the importance of staying attentive and avoiding the display of expensive jewellery in public spaces.
