Aurangabad, Feb 27: The Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) has been accorded the status of an Autonomous Institution by the University Grants Commission (UGC).Out of 4340 colleges in Maharashtra, 103 colleges have got the status of autonomy. Out of 432 colleges under Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, MIT and two other colleges have received autonomy till date. Excellent academic performance by students, faculty with required academic qualifications and experience as per rules, well-equipped library and laboratory, the achievements of the students and teachers in various fields and the jobs opportunities to the students made the autonomy possible, according to an MIT press statement.MIT has become the first and only private engineering educational autonomous institution in Marathwada. Autonomous status gives an opportunity to the students to get B Tech degree which can be accompanied by an additional Honors or Minors degree. This provides an opportunity for students to learn many advanced skill based courses such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Electric Vehicle and 3D Printing. Autonomy will make it easier to create curricula by recognizing the needs of the industry, giving students as many elective courses as possible and conducting continuous assessment of students.The admission process will be implemented as per the rules of the government and the students will continue to get the benefits of the scholarship as before.The status was achieved under the guidance of the President of GS Mandal Dr Y A Kawade, Director General Munish Sharma, principal Dr Santosh Bhosle, and the consistent efforts taken by the Conveners Dr Ganesh Sable and Dr Prashant Ambad and the entire teaching faculty and staff.
