Chhatrapait Sambhajinagar: Thieves broke into a house near Zhambad Estate in Osmanpura on Friday night and stole 38.6 tolas gold jewellery, Rs 4.17 lakh in cash and 3.5 kg silver.

The family of the house had gone to Pune for work on Thursday.

The neighbours sensed the thieves at the right time. They immediately surrounded the house. However, the thieves attacked them with sickles. The alert neighbour chased them for 1.5 kilometres with two children, and the thieves got away with it. Some of the stolen items, including a bag of valuables, fell on the road.

A case was registered at Osmanpura police station on Saturday in this regard. Health consultant Vikas Jagtap (76) lives with his family in Vasant Vihar Society near Zhambad Estate. Jagtap had gone to Pune on February 12 for work.

The dogs in the area suddenly started barking at 2 am on February 13. His neighbour Anil Kumawat's wife became suspicious and checked the CCTV cameras. Two thieves were seen entering the society in the CCTV footage.

She immediately contacted another neighbour, Prashant Dahiwadkar. Prashant and his two sons Dhruv and Krishna came out of the house. They went directly in front of Jagtap's house.

Thieves came out of the house, attacked neighbours with a scythe and a tommy.

However, Dahiwadkar dodged the attack. Both thieves managed to run away.

1.5 km chase

--The thieves came out with two bags. Therefore, realising that they had stolen a large amount of items, Prashant Dahiwadkar and his two sons bravely started chasing the thieves with wooden sticks to catch them.

-- The thieves jumped over the seven-foot wall of the society, but Dahiwadkars did not give up the chase.

--During the run, the two thieves collided with each other and one of the bags fell on the road at Verma Chowk.

-- As soon as Dahiwadkar's sons reached near the bag, the thief again tried to lift the bag by threatening with a sickle. However, fearing being caught, the other accomplice forced him to run fast.

-- Upon learning of the incident, Police Inspector Sangram Tate of Osmanpura Police Station rushed to the spot. A case was registered against the thieves after Jagtap returned from Pune on Saturday.

Soil on number plate of 2-wheeler

The thieves had parked their two-wheeler behind a car outside Vasant Vihar Society. When the citizen woke up, they had to abandon the vehicle and run away. The police seized the vehicle. He had covered the number plate of the motorcycle with soil so that no one would notice the number or catch it on CCTV cameras.

According to Jagtap's complaint, about 38.6 tolas of gold jewellery, Rs 4.17 lakh 1cash and 3.5 kg of silver jewellery were stolen in the theft. After Dahiwadkar chased him, a bag containing 2.62 kg of silver, approximately 20 tolas of gold and four wristwatches was found. Police Inspector Sangram Tate said that they had received information about the suspects and that they would be arrested soon.
