Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

To provide additional water to the city, a pipeline with a diameter of 900 mm was laid at an urgent cost of Rs 200 crore. While 75 MLD of water was expected from this pipeline, only 20 MLD is coming through it. Incidentally, the 900-mm pipeline got damaged when a Poclain machine laying 2500-mm main pipeline hit it at Takli Phata on Monday at 3 pm.

On March 6, the entire city's water supply was disrupted due to burning of a power cable at Jayakwadi. The disrupted water supply has not yet been restored. Before that, a new crisis emerged on Monday afternoon. At Takli Phata on Paithan Road, the installation of a 2500 mm diameter pipeline was underway. However, the newly laid 900 mm pipeline was damaged when a Poclain machine struck it. The contractor who laid the pipeline raised his hands.

He took the stance, "Why should I repair the pipeline when it’s not my fault?" The company responsible for the work that caused the damage also raised its hands. Due to their dispute, the repairs were delayed. Finally, the municipal corporation sent their regular contractor to the site at 7 pm. It was said that if the repairs could be done at night, they would proceed. Otherwise, work would have to begin on Tuesday morning. As a result, the city will receive 20 MLD less water. This will affect areas including Cidco and Hudco.

The pipes are breaking due to the pressure of the water supply. Currently, only one pump is running on the 900 mm diameter pipeline. To operate the pipeline at full capacity, three pumps need to be started. With the pressure from just one pump, the pipes are breaking at several places. The question now arises; What will happen if all three pumps are started?
