The Pishor (Kannad tehsil) police had arrested a man for abducting and raping a 17 years old girl. The accused on Friday was taken to the toilet in the police station where consumed acid kept there. He was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he died on Saturday while being treated.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed for some time at GMCH area as the relatives of the accused refused to receive his body unless case is filed against the PI of the Pishor police station and the father of the complainant victim.
The deceased accused has been identified as Bhagwan Hardas Mahalkar (38, Khandi Pimpalgaon, Khuldabad). According to the details, Bhagwan, a few days back, had abducted a minor girl from Jaitkheda. On the complaint given by the relatives of the girl, the police caught the Bhagvan and the girl. After the victim's statement, a case of child abuse was registered against Bhagwan, and was arrested on Wednesday. The court had remanded him in police custody. On Friday morning, he was taken to the toilet, where he consumed acid. The police immediately admitted him to the GMCH, where he died on Saturday at 4 pm. A case of accidental death has been registered at the Pishor police station.
Meanwhile, the deceased's aggrieved relatives alleged that the police are claiming that Bhagwan has consumed acid but from where this acid came. His brother has been murdered, alleged his elder brother Gokul Mahalkar. They demanded that a case should be registered against the concerned officer and the father of the girl.
