Ambedkarite organisations protest against stay on UGC Equity Bill
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Members of various Ambedkarite organisations staged a strong protest at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University gate on Sunday, after the Supreme Court gave a stay on the UGC Equity Regulation.
The agitators said that a wave of anger has swept across the country after the SC stayed the Equity Regulation, a set of rules proposed by the University Grants Commission to prevent caste, religion, language, and gender-based discrimination in the education sector, following opposition from the upper-caste community.
During the protest, they demanded that the new regulations be
implemented immediately, making them more robust and inclusive. The office-bearers of the various organisations stated that caste discrimination, institutional harassment, and mental torture in higher education institutions are serious and real problems, citing incidents like those involving Rohit Vemula and Dr Payal Tadvi as living proof.
Principal Sunil Wakekar, Dr Shankar Ambhore, Daulatrao More, Dr Anil Pandey, Sachin Nikam, Dr Deepak Khillare and others were present.
