ATMs run dry, citizens struggle amid cash crunch

A cash shortage at several ATMs across the city on Thursday evening left residents scrambling for withdrawals, triggering frustration and long queues at operational kiosks.

Areas like Jawahar Colony, Kranti Chowk, Ulkanagar, Pundliknagar, and Sootgirni Chowk reported empty ATMs, forcing many to borrow money or delay essential payments. “I checked multiple ATMs, but none had cash. It was frustrating as I needed money urgently,” said a local resident. Bank officials blamed technical issues and year-end financial adjustments for the disruption. A senior bank manager revealed that the contract with the agency responsible for refilling ATMs had been terminated, and a new agreement was yet to be finalized. “We are working on a solution, and cash replenishment will resume soon,” the official assured. With financial year-end transactions surging, citizens are urging banks to resolve the issue swiftly to prevent further inconvenience.
