Aurangabad beats Nashik, Vasai-Virar in crime

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2019 report has revealed that Aurangabad, the capital of Marathwada, has overtaken Nashik and Vasai-Virar in terms of crime. Not only these two cities but also Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh has been overtaken by Aurangabad in crime. The crime rate in Aurangabad is 474 per cent per lakh population, while in Allahabad it is 461.9 per cent, according to the bureau''s report.

Crimes in various cities and districts of India are recorded in the NCRB. The NCRB released a report on the crime in 2019. According to the report, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, there were 35 murders in Aurangabad in 2019, while 198 deaths were reported in 186 fatalities. In 182 accidents at home, 194 people were seriously injured, while 61 hit and run incidents occurred. There were 31 incidents of assault. There were 233 incidents of molestation. In all, 167 cases of fraud were registered. There were 22 incidents of violence against women in the workplace.

Based on the population of different cities across the country, the NCRB announces the crime rate per lakh population in the city. According to the report, the crime rate in Aurangabad city is 474 per lakh population. Similarly, 6, 025 crimes were registered in Nashik city in 2019. The crime rate is 385.5 per cent. There were 4,617 crimes registered in Vasai-Virar city. The crime rate in Vasai-Virar is 378.1 per cent.

Increased crime rate compared to 2018

- Crime related to women increased by 7.3 per cent.

- 4.5 per cent juvenile delinquency.

- Crime related to senior citizens 13.7 per cent.

- Corruption rate of 2.8 per cent.

- Cybercrime 63.5 per cent.
