Menopause a phase shrouded in myths and misconceptions was brought to the forefront at the WOW event, “Prepare, Empower, Thrive through Menopause!” Held at Lokmat Hall on Friday, the discussion aimed at equipping women with knowledge and strategies to navigate this natural transition with confidence.
Bringing together medical and wellness experts, the event saw a packed audience eager to break free from societal taboos surrounding menopause. Moderated by WOW founder and mindfulness coach Ruchira Darda, the panel featured gynaecologist Dr Ranjana Dhanu, nutritionist Rashmi Somani and fitness expert Sanjay Patil. Their insights provided a roadmap to managing menopause holistically, dispelling fears and advocating lifestyle changes for better health. Dr Dhanu highlighted that while menopause typically occurs between 41-56 years, premature menopause can begin as early as 14-22 years, increasing risks of osteoporosis, emotional imbalances and Alzheimer’s. She urged women to cut out white sugar, prioritize calcium intake and undergo regular bone density checks to mitigate risks. Fitness expert Sanjay Patil stressed exercise and stress management for a smoother transition. He recommended Sheetali Pranayama for night sweats and natural foods like macadamia nuts, muskmelon seeds, berries, and leafy greens over whey protein for hormonal balance.
