Bulk Water Usage rates to be increased

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The bulk water usage rates for agricultural irrigation, industrial, and domestic use provided across the State are set to be increased. A proposal has been submitted to the government for this purpose.

The Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) has issued directives to maintain the old rates until June 30.

Water supply is provided for agricultural irrigation, industrial use, and drinking water from various minor, medium, and major projects under the Water Resources Department.

Water is supplied to agricultural users through Water User Associations and water charges are collected accordingly.

Industrial water is supplied through Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), while domestic water is taken in bulk by local self-governing bodies such as Gram Panchayats, Municipal Councils, and Municipal Corporations, which then distribute it further.

For this water usage, water charges are paid by the concerned institutions to the Water Resources Department. The previous water charge rates expired in December 2025.

Against this backdrop, the committee formed by the government to determine new water tariff rates has submitted its report to the government.

After the government approves this report, it will be stamped by the MWRRA. However, until the new rates are announced, the Regulatory Authority has granted permission to the Water Resources Department to collect water charges at the old rates until June 30, according to information provided by senior sources.
