City have several pharma clusters, may host one of the five new National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) announced in the union Budget. Industry representatives say political leadership must actively pursue this opportunity with the government.

The city’s pharma ecosystem is well established, with more than ten companies in industrial zones such as Waluj, Paithan, Chikalthana, and Shendra engaged in production, many with FDA-approved drugs. The pharma sector has been operational here for several years, building a robust infrastructure for research, manufacturing, and skilled manpower. The union Budget also proposed national-level institutes in Ayurveda, regional healthcare, disability education, and mental health, alongside the NIPERs. Among these, a biopharma institute could be established in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, boosting industrial growth and research opportunities. Ritesh Mishra, president of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar First, said, “In the budget speech, new NIPERs were announced under the Bio Pharma initiative to promote industrial growth. Our city already has capacities in drug manufacturing, healthcare, research, and skilled workforce. Therefore, CSN First strongly demands that a NIPER be established here, and we will actively pursue this.”
