Child marriage foiled in Deepanagar; swift action by Damini squad
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
A child marriage was foiled in Deepanagar area of Satara locality following prompt action by the Damini one mobile patrolling team. The intervention came after a tip-off from Nitesh Durve, an employee of the District Child Protection Committee.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Damini in-charge police sub-inspector Kanchan Mirdhe. The team included assistant police sub-inspector Lata Jadhav and women police personnel Monika Dive, Naglod, Khaire, Kundare, Chandre, and Gawli, along with Nitesh Durve.
Upon reaching the spot, the team found that the marriage of a 13-year-old girl, Shanti Shinde (name changed), resident of Hadgaon, Nanded; currently staying in Deepanagar was being conducted with 25-year-old Ramesh Dande (name changed) resident of Pune. It was revealed that the marriage was being arranged due to the family’s poor financial condition.
The marriage was immediately stopped under the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. The concerned individuals have been instructed to appear before the Child Welfare Committee at Hudco Corner on April 28, 2026. Further action is underway at Satara Police Station.
