Citizens take part in Kham river cleanliness drive

Aurangabad, Feb 13: A cleanliness and tree plantation drive was implemented with peoples’ participation from Iron Bridge to Barapullah gate area in Aurangabad on Saturday from 7 am to 10 am. This is the second consecutive week that the drive has been implemented.

Municipal corporation employees, citizens and voluntary organisation planted 700 trees and removed 5 tonnes garbage. The AMC, Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, Cantonment Board, Varroc and EcoSattva are jointly implementing the drive to rejuvenate the Kham River under the Majhi Vasundhara project every Saturday.

In the first phase of the cleanliness drive, activities like widening of the Kham riverbed, removing garbage dumped at the bank of the river, connecting open sewage to the underground drainage and processing of the drainage water are being carried out.

Trees will be planted on the sides of the river and riverfront will be developed. Head of the solid waste management department Nandkishor Bhombe, chief executive officer of the Cantonment Board Vikrant More, assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Suresh Wankhede, EcoSattva’s Natasha Zarine, Gauri Mirashi and Siddharth Bansode, municipal sanitary inspector Asadullah Khan and representatives of various organisations were present.
