Complaints about corporators’ children emerge, by-elections possible
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
After the municipal elections, complaints have surfaced against some newly elected corporators alleging they have three to four children. The administration has received these complaints but cannot disqualify candidates directly. Court action requires extensive documentation, including certified birth certificates. By-elections may be needed in three to four wards. Under local election rules, candidates with more than two children are ineligible, but many conceal this in affidavits. A petition has been filed against a female AIMIM corporator on this basis. Opposition parties claim two to three other corporators also exceed the limit, prompting the administration to request their documents. So far, two complaints have been received. If verified, the corporators’ positions could be annulled, triggering by-elections.
