Aurangabad, May 28:

Several Corona patients from various places of

Marathwada are coming to Aurangabad city for treatment. If these patients die,

it is mandatory to conduct last rites on them in the city. However, the

institute appointed for performing last rites in the city on the Corona

patients for the past few days is directly handing over the dead bodies to the

relatives despite conducting the last rites in the city and taking a huge

amount of money from them. The relatives pay around Rs 30,000 to take the body

out of the city, the sources said.

Several people are taking advantage of the

pandemic situation and are earning a huge amount of money. Aurangabad Municipal

Corporation (AMC), last year appointed two organizations for conducting last

rites on the Corona deceased. One organization provided this service free of

cost, while the corporation pays Rs 2,500 for the last rites of each person to

the other organization. The corporation has spent around Rs 1 crores so far for

performing last rites on Corona patients for the past 14 months. It is

mandatory for these institutes to conduct last rites in the city and should not

handover the body to the relatives. Now, around Rs 30,000 is being taken for

giving the body to the relatives, complained the Panchsheel Mahila Bachat Gut to

the corporation’s health department. Several bodies are handed over to the

relatives for taking out of the city. The relatives then perform all the

rituals and perform last rites at their native places, the complaint mentioned.

However, the administration has not conducted any inquiry about it and this

situation poses a threat to the spread of pandemics.

AMC medical officer Dr Neeta Padalkar said that

an organization had complained against the other organization that the bodies

are handed over to the relatives. Inquiry in this matter is under process, she

said.
