Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has initiated an inquiry into properties allegedly linked to AIMIM corporator Matin Patel from Naregaon Prabhag No. 9, following the registration of a police case against him for allegedly sheltering Nida Khan at his residence.

As part of the investigation, the civic body has so far pasted notices on three properties over alleged unauthorised constructions. However, no ownership documents pertaining to the properties were submitted to the municipal corporation by Monday. Civic officials have now begun verifying whose name the properties are registered. The deadline mentioned in the notices ends on Tuesday, after which further action is expected.

According to information submitted by Patel in his election affidavit during the municipal elections, his address was listed as Plot No. 2, Gut No. 5, near Dargah Masjid, Bismillah Colony, Naregaon. However, it remains unclear whose name the house is officially registered with. Questions have also been raised regarding the ownership of the house where Nida Khan was allegedly sheltered. Sources in the municipal corporation said that while Patel is reportedly in possession of the property, no official transaction was executed through a registered bond paper. Authorities are also verifying the ownership of the premises where Patel’s office is located.

Officials said Patel has not responded to any of the three notices issued by the civic body. Consequently, the administration suspects that the properties may be unauthorised. Patel, who studied up to Class VII, had reportedly not mentioned these properties in his affidavit.

‘Administration will do its job’

According to the mayor Sameer Rajurkar, “There are legal provisions for disqualifying a public representative if unauthorised construction linked to them is found in the city. In the Matin Patel case, the administration is carrying out its duties. The administration will determine what is true and what is false. Notices have been issued within the framework of the law, and if no reply is received, further action will follow.”

Another controversy involving AIMIM corporator

This is the second controversy involving an AIMIM corporator in recent times. Earlier, AIMIM corporator from Prabhag No. 6, Meraj Khan, had gone absconding in connection with an alleged assault on Islam Party leader Rafat Yar Khan. He was recently granted bail. Even before that issue could subside, the serious allegations against Matin Patel have surfaced.
