Cylinder explosion, loss of life averted
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
A major fire broke out in a tin-sheet room on the third floor of a house after an electric lamp installed inside caught fire. Within moments, the blaze intensified, leading to the explosion of one of the two gas cylinders kept in the room. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Chhatrapatinagar Galli No. 2 in the Harsul area. Fortunately, the family members managed to rush out of the house in time, preventing any loss of life. The Harsul police and fire brigade promptly reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
According to the Harsul police, Kishor Raut owns a three-storey house and had constructed a tin-sheet room on the terrace where his grandparents reside. Owing to an upcoming wedding in the family, Raut had brought two gas cylinders and kept them in the same room. On Sunday, the grandfather had switched on a lamp inside the room. However, the lamp sparked, causing a short circuit which initially set a mattress on fire. The flames spread rapidly and eventually caused a gas cylinder in the room to explode. The loud blast created panic in the locality for some time.
Harsul police station inspector Swati Kedar immediately alerted Dial 112 personnel Dinesh Puse and Rakesh Deshmukh, and also informed the fire brigade. The fire was brought under control within half an hour. The incident resulted in significant damage to furniture, clothes and other household items.
