Inauguration of maternity ward, MICU ward and ‘operation theatre-3’ by guardian minister

Only serious and critical patients are expected to come to the Government medical college and hospital (GMCH) for treatment. Patients with general illnesses and dog bites should receive treatment at municipal and rural hospitals, said dean Dr Shivaji Sukre. Responding to this, mayor Sameer Rajurkar said that the crowd at GMCH is increasing because common people have greater trust in the treatment available here. However, efforts will be made to strengthen hospitals under the municipal corporation.
The renovated maternity ward, MICU ward and ‘operation theatre-3’ at GMCH were inaugurated on Friday by guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat. Present on the occasion were mayor Sameer Rajurkar, dean Dr Shivaji Sukre, head of obstetrics and gynaecology department Dr Shrinivas Gadappa, head of surgery department Dr Sarojini Jadhav, head of medicine department Dr Meenakshi Bhattacharya, deputy dean Dr Gayatri Tadwalkar, Dr Kashinath Garkal, Dr Suresh Harbade, Dr Vinod Mundada, Harshada Shirsat, Vikas Jain and others.
What did the dean say?
Dr Shivaji Sukre said ghati hospital, being a medical teaching institution, should primarily handle critical cases. General illnesses and dog-bite cases should be treated at municipal and rural hospitals to reduce the burden on doctors and allow better focus on serious patients. He added that ₹25 crore allocated last year through the district planning committee has enabled the hospital to provide all medicines, including costly ones.
Action will be taken against contractors doing substandard work: guardian minister
Sanjay Shirsat said that patients coming to GMCH should not feel that they have been forced to come here out of helplessness. The aim is to provide services that are more advanced and of higher quality than private hospitals, and this responsibility has been entrusted to Dr Shivaji Sukre, who is fulfilling it effectively. As suggested by the mayor, a plan will be prepared to arrange meals for patients and their relatives visiting the cancer hospital. He also added that the work carried out by contractors in the hospital must be of high quality, durable and up to standard, and strict action will be taken against those doing substandard work.
