Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Fires triggered by friction in power lines and short circuits over the past two days have caused significant losses to farmers in the district. A silkworm shed was destroyed in Pachod, standing crops were burnt in Balhegaon and Ganori, and drip irrigation equipment was gutted in Undangaon. Farmers have blamed alleged negligence by the power distribution company for the damage, which has hit them hard during the harvesting season.

Silkworm shed reduced to ashes due to short circuit

A fire caused by sparks from a transformer on Friday morning destroyed a silkworm shed in Kolhi Bodkha area of Paithan tehsil. The shed belonged to Deepak Bhaskarrao Wagh (Gut No. 218) of Kekat Jalgaon, and the loss is estimated at Rs 4–5 lakh.

According to reports, a fireball fell from the transformer around 7 am, igniting dry grass on the bund. The flames quickly spread to the silkworm shed, reducing it and all equipment inside to ashes within minutes. The affected small farmer now faces severe financial distress. Villagers have demanded that the power company and tehsil authorities conduct an immediate inspection and provide compensation.
