LPG price hike hits hotel industry; rise in food prices likely

A sharp 50 per cent increase in commercial LPG prices, coupled with inadequate supply, has put the hotel and restaurant industry under severe strain. The Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association has expressed concern and urged the government to intervene immediately.

Association president Shivaji Patil said that while LPG prices have risen by 50 per cent, supply from dealers has dropped by nearly 70 per cent. This dual crisis has pushed local hotel businesses to the brink. “Our members are operating under extremely difficult conditions. With fuel costs soaring and supply disrupted, we are left with no option but to increase food prices. This decision is not desirable, but it has become unavoidable,” he said.

The association has called for a review of the price hike and restoration of regular supply, warning that many small and medium establishments may shut down if the situation persists.

Tourism sector may be affected

The association also warned that the situation could negatively impact the tourism sector. Rising costs and expensive dining may reduce the region’s competitiveness and adversely affect the local economy.
