Aurangabad, May 10:

The alert citizens demanded to spray disinfectant sanitisers in all the crematorium campuses is need of the hour. The safety of relatives, visitors, and caretakers is at stake while performing last rites upon patients dying of Covid-19. The sanitisation process is not being done for the past many months.

It may be noted that last rites on at least three bodies are performed daily, these days. The figure is more in the crematoriums which are situated in the city limit. Earlier, the last rites upon 10 bodies were being held. In this situation, the spraying of disinfectant sanitiser was expected to be done immediately with responsible. However, the AMC is paying no heed to the issue during the second wave.

The last rites upon patients who had died of other ailments are also performed in the crematoriums. A group of 15-20 relatives attends the last rites of their patient. Hence they are hesitant and fear of health threats due to the absence of sanitisation on regular basis.

The caretaker of Pushpanagari crematorium, Govind Gaikwad, said, " The sanitisation was done on daily basis during the first wave. Now, it is said that the AMC does not have a stock of sanitisers for spraying. I have the spraying pump. Hence I buy the disinfectant and sanitise the campus on my own."

Meanwhile, the caretakers of Pratapnagar crematorium and of N-6 crematorium Laxman Gaikwad and Sunil Gaikwad also underlined the need for immediate sanitisation on the campus on regular basis.
