Deogiri Institute of Engg gets autonomy
Lokmat News Network
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Deogiri Institute of Engineering (DIE), run by MS P Mandal, received autonomous status from the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday. With this, the number of engineering autonomous colleges reached four.
There are three autonomous engineering colleges in Marathwada. They are Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering and Technology (Nanded), MIT and Government College of Engineering of the city. General Secretary of MSP Mandal MLC Satish Chavan, at a press conference, said that the UGC officially granted academic autonomy status to DIE. With the autonomous status, the MSP Mandal city campus now has two autonomous status colleges. Deogiri College (non-engineering) already received autonomy last year.
“Getting autonomous status will definitely help in the academic development of the college. The DIE will be able to prepare its own new and innovative curriculum by identifying the needs of the industrial sector. Similarly, since the examinations and their evaluation will be conducted by the college itself, the college will take special initiatives to ensure that the results of the students are released on time and they get maximum employment opportunities," he said.
Mandal's vice president Shaikh Salim, treasurer Kiran Awargaonkar, executive member Vishwas Yelikar and DIE director Dr Subhash Lahane were present.
