The ‘BH’ (Bharat) series number plate allows seamless inter-state travel, ensuring that once a vehicle is registered under this series, it remains valid across India without the need for additional paperwork.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, a vehicle registered in one state can be driven in another for only 12 months before re-registration becomes mandatory. Failure to comply can result in hefty fines. Who can apply?

The ‘BH’ series is available to:

Private sector employees, provided their company operates in at least four states or union territories.

How to apply for a BH number?

Applications must be submitted online through the ‘Vahan’ portal of the transport department. Required documents include:

Proof of employment in an eligible company.

Payment receipts.

Previous records of residence in multiple states.

The registration process is also available through authorized vehicle dealers while purchasing a new vehicle. However, an individual can register only one vehicle under the BH series.
