Features of the Election
The election witnessed distinct sartorial displays by corporators of various parties. At 10.40 am, AIMIM’s male corporators arrived on foot from the party office at Nehru Bhavan, dressed in sherwanis and green turbans. Corporators of the Shinde Sena reached the venue at 10.50 am, sporting saffron turbans.
BJP’s women corporators were seen wearing saffron jackets with orange and green turbans, while their male counterparts wore turbans and jackets, along with saffron stoles draped around their necks. Corporators of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) donned blue turbans, whereas members of the Uddhav Sena faction wore saffron-coloured stoles. The lone corporator from the NCP (Sharad Pawar group) was seen seated alongside Mahayuti alliance members.
Rose Welcome:
All corporators were welcomed with rose flowers and books published by the municipal corporation. The civic administration also presented them with a kit comprising blue-coloured caps, shawls and mementoes.
Gown Ceremony:
Presiding Officer Deelip Swami invited newly elected Mayor Sameer Rajurkar and Deputy Mayor Rajendra Janjal onto the dais. He then presented a silky maroon gown with a wide golden-yellow border to the Mayor, who donned it amid loud slogans raised by party and alliance members inside the House.
Congratulatory Visits:
Senior leaders, including OBC Welfare Minister Atul Save, Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat, MPs Dr Bhagwat Karad and Sandipan Bhumare, MLAs Pradeep Jaiswal and Narayan Kuche, MLC Sanjay Kenekar, and others, visited the CSMC to congratulate the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Notable Moments:
Several BJP mayoral aspirants—Mahesh Malwatkar, Anil Makariye, Pramod Rathod and Vijay Autade—were seen seated together in the front row. AIMIM House Leader Haji Sher Khan appeared visibly unsteady while signing the voting register, prompting a party corporator to support his hand until the signature was completed.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner appealed to all corporators to submit their election expenditure details along with photographs, identity documents and bank account information to facilitate the preparation of official ID cards and the timely crediting of honorariums.
