Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
A massive fire broke out in a large storage shed housing vehicle spare parts at a warehouse on Paithan Road. The flames intensified rapidly due to the presence of spare parts, cushions, and oil containers, with thick plumes of smoke visible from a distance. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Tuesday. No casualties were reported, but spare parts worth lakhs were destroyed. Five to six new rickshaws parked in the premises were also gutted.
The Pagariya group operates a large warehouse for heavy vehicles and LPG rickshaws in the Golwadi area along Paithan Road. Within the premises, a tin shed adjoining the compound wall was used to store spare parts and oil. Around 4 pm, smoke was first noticed from this area, and within minutes, the fire engulfed the entire shed, taking a fierce form. As smoke billowed into the sky, a crowd gathered at the spot.
Upon receiving information, the fire brigade rushed to the scene. Seven fire engines from the municipal corporation, two from MIDC, and four private water tankers were deployed. After nearly one and a half hours of continuous efforts, the fire was brought under control. By then, the tin shed storing spare parts had been completely destroyed, along with five to six rickshaws.
Locals rush to help
A large number of LPG rickshaws meant for sale were parked in the warehouse premises. As soon as the incident came to light, former mayor Nandkumar Ghodele and police sub-inspector Govind Ekilwale from Satara were among the first to reach the spot. Local youths and warehouse staff quickly shifted several rickshaws to a safer location.
Fire officials Ashok Khandekar, Vijay Rathod, L. P. Kolhe, Sanjay Kulkarni, Deepraj Gangawane, Gorakhnath Jadhav, Ramesh Sonawane, and Chhatrapati Kekan made efforts to douse the flames. Municipal commissioner G. Sreekanth also visited the site to review the situation.
