Garbage heaps surface in Waluj MIDC

Aurangabad, Jan 7:

Large size garbage heaps were surfaced in x-sector of Waluj industrial estate as the waste-collecting agency is not paying attention to it.

It may be noted that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) started garbage processing unit on built, operate and transfer (BOT) basis three years ago to Indore based Mahindra and Mahindra Company after industrialists associations raised the issue.

The contractor carries out garbage processing.However, waste heaps surfaced at different places in X-sector for the past many days. Vendors from Pandharpur vegetable market, hoteliers, handcart pullers and fruit vendors throw garbage on the open space in this sector. As waste is not collected regularly, stray animals can be seen grazing there. This is posing a threat to the lives of people.

The sector is crowded daily as there offices of banks, transport companies and shops. The traders and industrialists are unhappy over the garbage issue. When contacted MIDC officers said that the agency was instructed to lift garbage from the industrial estate. Sunder Babu from Mahindra and Mahindra said that the agency staff would lift waste and clean the areas.
