Government directs creation of land division records

According to Section 85 of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Act, 1966, a drive will be launched to divide the shares of agricultural land that has more than one co-owner. This initiative will create records showing exactly how many co-owners each plot has. The government has issued an ordinance to implement this.

Under the state’s Agri Stack programme, a Farmer ID is now required. To generate this ID, the precise linkage of the land is necessary. The ‘7/12’ record contains details of the area and the account holder’s name. However, to clearly identify how many co-owners a plot has, a drive will be conducted under Section 85 to divide the shares of agricultural land with multiple co-owners.

Instructions in the government ordinance:

While creating the Farmer ID, the exact linkage of the land will require that, in a joint account, the land corresponding to each individual’s share is listed against their name. In joint accounts, discrepancies in share records can cause difficulties during transactions like sale and purchase of land or crop inspection entries. Therefore, citizens will need to apply for account division. Camps will be organised at the tehsil and divisional levels. These instructions have been issued by the government.
