Aurangabad, Jan 21:

Gramsevak of Bidkin Grampanchayat in Paithan tehsil, Sanjay Haribhau Shinde attempted suicide by consuming poison on Tuesday morning died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His relatives and the Gramsevak Sanghatna have alleged that he took the extreme step due to the harassment from his senior officer. The Sanghatana has called a district wide strike to condemn the incident.

On Monday, the senior officers while Shinde was on election duty conducted his inquiry. On January 18, Block Development Officer Vijay Londhe gave surprise visit to the grampanchayat. Fed up of harassment from Londhe, Shinde consumed poison at Maruti Mandir area on Tuesday morning. He was admitted to the Orion City Care Hospital where he died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.

The Maharashtra State Gramsevak union on Wednesday become aggressive over the issue and demanded the ZP administration to sack Londhe. The union has threatened to initiate strike from January 21 if he is not sacked immediately. Accordingly, the union has started strike in the district today. The president of the union, Bhimraj Dane said, an agitation will be done before the Bidkin police station after the postmortem of the body. The union has demanded to conduct an inquiry through CID in this matter.
